Sandip Bakshi is a qualified Mechanical Engineer from REC Durgapur, India. He began his career in 1989 with Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL), India’s state-owned copper producer, as a Graduate Engineer Trainee. In 1995, he joined Hindalco Industries (Birla Copper) as part of the greenfield development of a 100,000 TPA copper smelter. By the time he left, he was serving as Senior Manager (Mechanical) for Smelter I & II.

Sandip joined Chemaf in 2006, where he played a key role in the decommissioning and reconstruction of a 30,000 TPA copper leaching, SX, and EW plant relocated from Australia to the DRC.

Having more than three decades of experience in both pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical copper and cobalt plants—covering beneficiation through to metal production—Sandip brings deep expertise in project engineering, construction, project management and plant and utilities maintenance. He has served in various leadership roles within Chemaf and was promoted to General Manager in 2024.
